Coaching and leadership development are very important aspects of organizational success. Some consultants provide a “feel good, short-term” program that entertains the participants but does not include the depth of the organizational culture or the foundations of the great organizational philosophers, invoking lasting effects on behavior and performance. Dr. O’Dowd grounds his work in the foundational theories of Henri Fayol, Max Weber, Lyndall Urwick, Peter Drucker, and Otto Scharmer. These practical theorists provide Steve with his foundational coaching fundamentals. These elements are numerous and include providing knowledge, skills, and competencies (Fayol), seeking and identifying systems or structures to improve organizational effectiveness (Weber), recognizing that organizations never stand still (Urwick), setting expectations and managing by objectives (Drucker), and developing change strategies based on the emerging future (Scharmer).
Dr. O’Dowd provides leadership training and coaching to clients on an individual or group basis. His strong interpersonal skills and his love of mentoring are quickly recognized by his clients. His goal is not to reinforce a client’s existing knowledge, but to widen the
perspective of the client to recognize alternatives and options available to successfully lead in an ever-changing environment.
Steve works with all levels of management, including board members, senior officers, and organizational managers. His goal is to enjoy the improvement and success that results from his efforts.
